ON THE BLOCK SPORTS WITH @NASTYLOS

It's Saturday and it's time to get ready for tomorrow's NFC Championship game between the 49ers and the NEW YORK GIANTS!!!!

This year's champion will come out of the NFC.  Neither Baltimore nor the Patriots have what it takes to beat either of the NFC teams.

Last week's game between Green Bay and New York was crazy.  New York was too much on both sides of the football.  I was so happy they took the refs out of the game with every touchdown they scored because they were obviously screwing up calls in favor of the Packers.  I'm hoping Baltimore beats New England just so that the Giants could get their Superbowl revenge on them.  Kerry Collins couldn't beat that defense back in 2000 but Mr. Elite Eli Manning, who is having his best year of his career, would beat any defense right now.  Manning is the epitome of clutch and I would pick him over any QB in the NFL to start a must win game.

A slow start is what led the 49ers to beat the Giants by 7 back in Week 10 at Candlestick but if it wasn't for that last second batted ball by their defensive end, NY would have forced overtime and possibly have won the game.  What really concerns me is how their tight end, Vernon Davis, manhandled New Orleans' zone coverage.  They couldn't adjust at all and Davis was just beasting.  The Giants' secondary isn't known for delivering big hits or having physical players at all and they do play lots of zone coverage.  It's almost a certainty that the 49ers will use Davis as they did last week to catapult them to a victory.  But check this....NY 35 - SF 23 just because Eli Manning is that damn good.
Oh and in that AFC part of town, Ravens 29 - Patriots 27.

In baseball news, NL MVP, Ryan Braun is still going to accept his award even after coming up dirty.  I'll say it again, if this was a black player or a Hispanic, the media would have chastised them....I'm just saying.  The Rangers were able to come to terms with the Japanese phenom, Yu Darvish on a long term deal.  Carlos Pena rejoins Tampa Bay.  Ryan Madson and the Reds finalize a one year deal.  And it seems like the Texas Rangers are bowing out of the Prince Fielder sweepstakes.  Their co-owner stated that they would much rather lock up outfielder, Josh Hamilton than to sign the first baseman slugger.  Hamilton becomes a free agent after next season and it's understandable that they would want to do that.  Apparently, he's a likable fan favorite and his career is a feel good story, overcoming his drug addiction and all.  But are we to believe that this same group of owners, the same group that game Alex Rodriguez the sun and the moon, are not going to pay Fielder whatever he wants?  That remains to be seen.
And I'm still waiting for my official Jose Reyes jersey to be delivered.

I'll briefly touch upon boxing right now.  Bob Arum, now is the time to make this fight happen.  It doesn't have to be the date that Floyd Mayweather has picked but please, for the love of everything that's sacred in this world (Heineken's Brewery), sign the papers.  Arum's latest excuse is that he is waiting for the new Las Vegas Arena to open it's doors, which actually makes sense IF THIS IS TRUE.  The MGM seats roughly 20,000 and this new arena supposedly is going to seat 30,000.  But then again, does the venue really matter in this case?  Hell no.  This is one of the most anticipated fights ever.....only because of Mayweather's self promotion to which I give him a whole lot of credit nonetheless.  This fight could happen in Chile, Sri Lanka, Guam, even that Field of Dreams in Iowa and it will sell out and top the 100 million PPV buys.  But then there's the issue with Mayweather's hand problem and the necessity of him numbing them up with xylocaine, which is only legal in Nevada thus the fight "has to happen in Vegas."  I'll get into that in my next Boxing Edition here.  I hope the fight happens.  Period.  My venue of choice would be in MSG, where the most anticipated boxing match of all time happened:  Ali vs Frazier back in 1971.  It would be fitting for this fight to happen here in NYC, where neither fighter ever fought.
