For the first time since Superbowl XXX, we have ourselves a Superbowl rematch. My New York Giants against them Patriots from New England. The Giants defeated the 49ers behind a brilliant performance by Elite Manning and the Patriots advanced due to a botched kick by Baltimore's Billy Cundiff. Both teams defeated some very good teams during the playoffs but unlike the Patriots, the Giants were the underdog in each of their wins.
New York is playing some very good football. That defense has really turned it around and just in time too. But their secondary is still average at best and they've been known to get burnt often. They sure got their work cut out for them with this New England offense. Yeah, they beat them during the regular season, but remember before Ballard's touchdown catch, Brady marched down the field with the greatest of ease. The Giants front four along with their linebackers better put some significant pressure on Justin Bieber Sr. if they want to win this game.
This Patriot defense is average at best. One of the worse pass defenses this year but okay against the run. The Giants have been running okay, not great, just okay as of late but they have one of the best wide receiver tandems I have ever seen in Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham, and Victor Cruz. Elite Manning should have a field day with that defense, but I repeat, should. Bill Belichick is a far more superior head coach than Tom Coughlin. If you remember, Bill Belichick was the mastermind of the dominant Giants defense of the 80s and 90s so he does know a little bit about getting to the quarterback. You can safely bet he's worried about the Giants' pass rush and has a game plan for it. Whether or not that game plan would be implemented correctly, I guess we'll see.
Despite the contrasting records of these two teams, I believe the teams are pretty evenly matched. New England's passing offense vs. Giants' pass defense: Advantage New England. Giants passing offense vs. New England's pass defense: Advantage New York. Patriots' rushing offense vs. Giants' rush defense: Advantage New England. New York's rushing offense vs. Patriots rush defense: Advantage Giants. New England's special teams vs. Giants' special teams: Advantage Giants. The Giants' kicker, Lawrence Tynes, is as clutch as they come. If a field goal is going to win the game, Tynes will be the one kicking it.
The last championship that the Giants won were against this same group of guys. I don't see history being rewritten, in fact, I see Justin Bieber Sr shaving his head and/or committing suicide. 38-30 New York.
Finally some boxing news, Miguel Cotto
did what I predicted and had hoped for.....did not resign with Bob Arum
and Top Rank. As a result, he will be getting his payday and fighting
Floyd Mayweather on May 5th. After talks of the mega fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather broke down when Mayweather demanded a 60/40 split, the next viable candidate in Floyd's eyes was Cotto. By signing on to this fight, Mayweather sees a chink in Cotto's
armor for sure otherwise, he will not be fighting him. I assume the
split for this fight will be a 60/40, but anyone who follows Cotto knows that he would take virtually any split to beat this dude's ass.
Nonito Donaire,
another Filipino and future pound for pound fighter, will be fighting
Wilfredo Vazquez Jr this Saturday on HBO. This fight will be so much
better than the Chavez Jr vs. Marco Antonio Rubio on Showtime. Vazquez is coming off a loss to Jorge Arce.
The fight was action packed and was stopped when his father/trainer,
threw in the towel with only a minute left. When we last saw the
Filipino Flash, he was giving some guy from Argentina the boxing lesson
of his life. This one I see ending early.....5th round, Nonito Donaire. Prediction for the Chavez/Rubio fight.....I HATE JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ ANYTHING, whether it's senior, junior, the third, clothes, ponchos, churros, whatever. Fuck that guy. Rubio by split decision.
HIT ME UP!!!!! @NASTYLOS
